Waleed Hazbun

Waleed Hazbun is Richard L. Chambers Professor of Middle Eastern Studies in the Department of Political Science at the University of Alabama, USA where he teaches international relations and US foreign policy in the Middle East. He holds a PhD in political science from MIT (2002) and previous taught at the Johns Hopkins University and the American University of Beirut (AUB), where he served as Director of the Center for Arab and Middle East Studies (CAMES) and was a founding member of the Critical Security Studies Working Group. He has published in Geopolitics, Third World Quarterly, Middle East Policy, Peace & Change, and Critical Studies in Security and was co-editor or Middle East Report (Spring 2020) “Exit Empire – Imagining New Paths for US Policy.” He is currently a Senior Researcher at the research network Security in Context and his ongoing research addresses the politics of insecurity in the Eastern Mediterranean and ways to reimagine the US role in the Middle East.
