In the second round of the SALAM project, participants each submitted 2,000-word essays on the following subject:
“How does the arms trade divert attention from or interact with other pressing conversations in and between Europe, North America and the MENA region?”
On Friday September 15, 2023, participants met for an online round-table debate, under the guidance of SALAM expert associates. The debate was divided into two sections headed by the following questions:
- “What are the policy opportunity costs of prioritizing arms manufacturing and trade (at the domestic and regional levels)?”.
- “What are the economic opportunity costs of new trends in the MENA region prioritizing investment in arms production and the arms trade?”.
